Paul Greenhalgh lecture: The Role of Progress: The Great World’s Fairs 1870 to 2020 –

Paul Greenhalgh, now the director of the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Art at the University of East Anglia, has had a long and distinguished career as a curator, author, and lecturer on modernism. Greenhalgh previously served as the Director and President of the Corcoran Gallery of Art and Corcoran College of Art and Design and as the Head of Research for the Ceramics and Glass Collections at the Victoria and Albert Museum. A prolific author, Greenhalgh’s books include The Modern Ideal: The Rise and Collapse of Idealism in the Visual Arts from the Enlightenment to Postmodernism, The Persistence of Craft: The Applied Arts Now, and Art Nouveau 1890-1914. A much sought after speaker, Greenhalgh has given public addresses throughout England, North America, Europe, and the Far East. His current research is focused on the creation of the World’s fairs as emblems of the modern age and the French Art Nouveau. Mr. Greenhalgh’s visit is sponsored by the FUNd Endowment at Colorado State University as part of the Critic and Artist Residency Series.
