Ralph Steadman And Another Thing

August 27–December 13, 2026

Co-curated by Andrea Lee Harris

Ralph Steadman is one of the most influential British graphic artists of the last 50 years. He is famous for his long collaboration with Hunter S. Thompson, notably illustrating Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, which inspired two films in 1979 and 1998. With his international reputation, Steadman has attained a cult status and continues to influence artists from around the globe.

In 2013, the Cartoon Museum curated and mounted a 50-year retrospective of his work. The exhibition featured 108 original artworks by Ralph Steadman, five works by other artists who were critical influences on Steadman’s work, plus notebooks, art materials, and ephemera. The Ralph Steadman Retrospective offered an unprecedented insight into the genius of one of the world’s most acclaimed artists. 93,850 guests attended the Ralph Steadman Retrospective. Unfortunately, the exhibition was cut short, due to the Covid 19 Pandemic, and artworks had to return to the Collection in the UK.

NOW…We are back with 138 original artworks and more. This enhanced new touring exhibition will take the viewer on a journey through Steadman’s prolific career of more than sixty years, from the sketches he created as a student in the 1950s to present-day artworks. At 87 years young, Ralph Steadman is still at the drawing desk throwing ink and making history.

RALPH STEADMAN…AND ANOTHER THING showcases Steadman’s legendary collaborations with maverick Gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson; his illustrated literary classics such as Alice in Wonderland and Treasure Island; and the inventive books he authored such as I Leonardo and The Big I Am. There are also illustrations from his children’s books, which include The Little Red Computer, Dozy & Hawkeye, and That’s My Dad, plus artworks featuring famous writers, musicians, and political and social commentary. Also featured is Steadman’s book about endangered animals titled Critical Critters and the recently released A Life in Ink. The life-size bronze sculpture, Vintage Dr. Gonzo by Jud Bergeron, will be touring with the show.

The exhibition will amaze and inspire the uninitiated as well as his most die-hard fans. As Thompson advised in the Steadman illustrated Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, “buy a ticket, take the ride.”

Ralph Steadman is one of his generation’s most highly regarded cartoonists and illustrators and he continues to command interest from brands such as Nike, Harley Davidson, and Supreme, collaborating with all three in the last three years. Together with Hunter S. Thompson, Steadman changed the face of satire and cartoons in journalism for the generations who now follow in their footsteps.
