Whether it’s inside museums, which have historically played a role as gatekeepers of culture, often replicating the barriers to minorities in society; or universities, which are still far from being accessible for all social classes; or the corporate and political worlds, with its glass ceilings still largely intact. The question is: how do we affect change?

With that in mind, the Gregory Allicar Museum at Colorado State University presents MIX, Multicultural, Intersectional, Inclusivity, eXchange on March 29 from 5:00p.m. to 7:30p.m. to discuss representation and practical change related to social justice.

The event is meant to be a convergence point for all people, and minority groups in particular, to foster support, and to learn about each other’s struggles, beauty, and uniqueness, as well as for allies to learn how to support and empower them. Prior to the panel, attendees will be invited to spend 30 minutes analyzing the museum’s temporary and permanent collections through their own experiences and identities, questioning representation, accessibility, power and visibility on a broader scale beyond art itself. After that, a knowledgeable panel with individuals with different backgrounds, identities, and fields of work will engage in a conversation about those topics, bringing their experiences to bear, and offering alternate and new ways of resisting and existing.
