Collection Connections: Visiting Artists
August 27 – December 12, 2025
Curated by Linny Frickman
The Department of Art and Art History and the Gregory Allicar Museum of Art have a rich history of hosting visiting artists. In the 1980s the department launched the Special Exhibition and Visiting Artists Program, which brought prominent artists to CSU, including Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg, Roy Lichtenstein and Willem de Kooning. In 1997, with a gift from the FUNd at CSU, The Critic & Artist Residency Series was founded, and a host of prominent contemporary artists and critics have come to CSU for week-long intensive interactions. The program was first housed in the Visual Arts Building and transitioned in 2009 to the Gregory Allicar Museum of Art with the purpose of bringing prominent artists, critics and curators to campus for public lectures, open forums, classroom visits, critiques, and exhibitions. Other programs, including the Scott Artist Lecture Series, continue to bring important voices in the art world to Fort Collins to enrich our community and our curriculum.
The museum is fortunate to have many of these artists represented in the permanent collection. In conjunction with the exhibition Here & Now: Recent Work by the Department of Art and Art History and with the Visual Arts Building’s 50th Anniversary Celebration we are pleased to present a selection of works from visiting artists who have come to Fort Collins to work with our students, for public programs and exhibitions.
Free & open to all!
Support for the museum’s exhibitions and programming is generously provided by the City of Fort Collins Fort Fund and the FUNd Endowment at CSU.
